High“μ”Plate®

In the case of high-strength bolts with double-face friction joints used in steel structures, high-strength bolt joints are downsized and the number of high-strength bolts are reduced.

What is High“μ”Plate®?

High“μ”Plate® is described below. In the case of high-strength bolts with double-face friction joints used in steel structures, by spraying aluminum on the contact surface of the splice plate side, we can realize a high slip resistance and a higher slip coefficient* than is conventionally possible. High“μ”Plate® has been created to downsize high strength bolt joints.

*) The slip coefficient is the value obtained by dividing the load (slip load) when the friction surface of the material causes a clear slip due to an external force in the high-strength bolt friction joint by the initial bolt tension (axial force).

Features

  • Downsizing splice plates
The slip coefficient between an aluminum-sprayed splice plate and steel structure is μ=0.7. Therefore, such splice plates are more compact than conventional ones.
  • Contribute to cost reduction
Thanks to the compact size of splice plates, we can reduce their cost, the number of high strength bolts needed to mount the splice plates, and the labor costs for installing them.
